This series is called forever. ‘Forever’ is a pretty mind bending subject, something pretty hard to get your head around. The best way to see it is like a perfect circle. There is no beginning or end, it just keeps going! That’s what forever is like, we will spend forever with God in heaven, living on into eternity with Him!
This month we’re focusing on amazing people from the Bible who we’ll get to know in Heaven! This weekend we’ll be focusing on one of the Apostle Paul’s main disciples, Timothy.
KEEP HOLDING ON! Timothy came to Jesus and started his relationship with God after he heard about Him through Paul, and was faithful to both God and to Paul for his life. Being faithful means that we do what we say we will do, being reliable and trustworthy. We’d like to be able to say that we’re faithful all the time, but not one of us are perfect, we all mess up and we make mistakes. Here’s the good news, even when we mess up, God is still faithful to us. In Paul’s second letter to Timothy he said, 2 Timothy 2:11-13 (NIRV) “Here is a saying you can trust. If we died with him, we will also live with him. If we don’t give up, we will also rule with him. If we say we don’t know him, he will also say he doesn’t know us. Even if we are not faithful, he remains faithful. He must be true to himself.” God is always faithful, no matter what. It’s who He is! He is perfect and will always do what He says He will do, fulfilling every promise.
We can be Forever heroes when we hold on, trust in God and remain faithful. God chose us, you and I to serve Him and continue the work that Timothy and the other church leaders in Acts started. It’s our job now to be faithful in building the church too! We don’t do it by ourselves, Jesus gives us strength and we’re never alone. We have God’s word and the example of those that have gone before, the unlikely heroes we’ve been learning so much about. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIRV) “The God who has chosen you is faithful.” God is faithful to us and we can be faithful to Him.
