The night Jesus was born, there were wise men far far away who saw the great star of Bethlehem. They had studied the prophecies of the Jews, and knew that this star must mean that the The promised one, Jesus, the savior of the world was being born that night. Immediately they made preparations and saddled their camels for the long journey ahead of them. They traveled through desert and jungle, mountains and valleys, over many many miles. They traveled for two whole years!!!

On their way to Bethlehem, the wise men met the king of that area,  Herod. He was a mean man, and when he heard that Jesus was born, Herod was jealous of Jesus and wanted to kill him.  He then told them, "Go and find this child.  As soon as you find him, tell me, so that I can go and worship him." But secretly he wanted them to report back so that he could make sure Jesus would not take his place as king.

After they had spoken to the King, the wise men left to find the baby.  But now they were lost! They knew where Bethlehem was, but there were so many houses and buildings and farms. There were even lots of babies! How would they ever know which one was Jesus? That night, the star appears again in the sky!!! It was a Miracle!!! They followed the star, and found Jesus who by now was a couple of years old.

They bowed down and worshipped him.

They opened the gifts they had brought Jesus.  The gifts were gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  These were very expensive gifts; these were gifts that you would give to a King, not to a child.  Mary thanked them for bringing the gifts for Jesus, and the wise men went to find a place to sleep for the night.

As the wise men slept, they each had the same dream.  They were not to go back and tell King Herod where they found Jesus.  King Herod didn't want to find Jesus to worship him; instead he wanted to kill him because he was jealous that this baby would someday be better than him.

So the wise men went home another way so that Herod would not know where they had come from.  They decided that they would not tell King Herod anything about what they had seen.

God also warned Joseph in a dream to leave Bethlehem so that Herod would not find Jesus, and thats exactly what they did.

So God brought Jesus into the world to save the world. All of the prophecies about his birth were fulfilled, and Jesus was safe and sound.
