The Big Point
WHATS YOUR STORY? "I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16.
The Apostles followed Jesus during his time on earth. After he went to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to be their helper. The apostles performed many miracles and healed the sick! When they told everyone what Jesus had done in their life (their testimony), many people believed in Jesus!
All of this made the jewish high priest and his officials very jealous. So they arrested the apostles and put them in jail. But an angel of the lord came in the night and set them free! The angel told them to go and continue to tell people about Jesus.
So at daybreak thats exactly what they did! Meanwhile, the high priest called together a meeting to talk about what they were going to do with the apostles who they thought were still in jail. When they realized that the jail was empty, someone arrived and announced that they were teaching people at the temple! Soldiers arrested the apostles and brought them to the council.
The high priest said, “We gave you strict orders to never again tell people about Jesus.” But Peter and the apostles said, “we must obey God rather than any other human authority”. They even told the high priest and the high council all about Jesus! About how he had died and rose from the dead, and that everyone can be forgiven of their sins!
The high priest ordered the apostles to be executed!! But one of them named Gamaliel stood up and asked that the apostles be sent out. He advised the council to not kill the apostles because it would do more harm than good. So, they decided to give the apostles a beating and sent them off.
When the apostles left there, they were so happy that they were able to suffer for Jesus, and they happily went right back to telling everyone how amazing God’s love is!!!
